2026-2027 Remote Learning & Winter Weather Information
Dear Jefferson-Morgan Families,Staff, and Students,
With the winter weather season approaching, I want to share our procedures for delays, school closures, Remote Learning Days, and makeup days so families can plan as much as possible. The safety of our students and staff remains our first priority whenever weather conditions affect school operations.
During a winter weather event, we review current and forecasted conditions, road conditions throughout the district, and information from our transportation provider and local partners. We also communicate with neighboring school districts when appropriate. Whenever possible, a delay or closure decision will be communicated before 6:00 a.m. and, when conditions allow, the night before. Changing weather or road conditions may sometimes require a later decision.
To make our communication more consistent and easier for families to understand, Jefferson-Morgan will use the term Remote Learning when students are learning from home because our buildings are closed. Going forward, Remote Learning will be the term used for these days. Families may have previously heard these days referred to as FID (Flexible Instruction Days), but we will no longer use the FID terminology.
How Families Will Be Notified

Remote Learning Expectations
Regular Remote Learning Days will be asynchronous. Assignments will be posted by 10:00 a.m. Teachers will be available from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to answer questions and provide assistance. Attendance will be taken, and students are expected to complete assigned work. Building principals will communicate specific attendance, assignment, and absence procedures.
State rules provide school districts flexibility to use remote learning beyond the traditional five FID days. However, our plan is not to rely exclusively on remote learning. Jefferson-Morgan intends to use a reasonable combination of Remote Learning Days and in-person makeup days.
After Day 6: Makeup Days
Beginning with the next closure, the District plans to use the following options in order, to the best of our ability:
1. January 18 - Martin Luther King Jr. Day
2. February 15 - Presidents' Day
3. March 25 - Spring Break Day 1
4. March 31 - Spring Break Day 2
5. March 30 - Spring Break Day 3
6. One Act 80 Teacher Professional Development Day when schools are closed - date to be determined
7. Remote Learning Day
8. Remote Learning Day
9. Remote Learning Day
Extended School Closure
If the District must remain closed for an extended period of time because of severe weather, an emergency, facility issues, or another unforeseen circumstance, we are also developing an Extended Remote Learning Plan. Unlike our regular asynchronous Remote Learning Days, this plan would include live, teacher-led virtual classes and a structured daily schedule. Families and staff would receive specific schedules and expectations before this plan is used.
Early Dismissal Plans
If Jefferson-Morgan needs to dismiss school early, please make sure your family has appropriate childcare and dismissal plans in place and that your emergency contact information is current. Contact your student's school if updates are needed.
Please remember: This is our planned approach, but it may change depending on the weather and the needs of our District and students. The timing and length of closures, transportation, instructional requirements, and other circumstances may require adjustments. Our goal is to balance safety, meaningful instruction, consistency for families, and preservation of the established end of the school year and graduation whenever possible. |
