Measles Awareness and Preparedness at Jefferson-Morgan

Posted Date: 11/03/26 (01:12 PM)

The health and safety of our students and staff remain a top priority at Jefferson-Morgan School District. With recent measles activity in Pennsylvania, including a confirmed case in neighboring Washington County, we want to share how our District is preparing.

We want to emphasize that there are currently NO confirmed cases of measles or known exposures within Jefferson-Morgan School District.

Over the past several weeks,  we have been working closely with our school nurse, Mrs. Marti Kern, and our District Safety Team to develop a comprehensive Measles Response Plan based on guidance from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health.

As part of our preparation, we are reviewing immunization records, establishing procedures for responding to suspected cases, preparing for potential exposures, and developing communication protocols to ensure families receive timely and accurate information.

What Can Parents and Guardians Do?
We encourage families to review their children's immunization records, stay informed about measles symptoms, and keep children home when they are sick. If your child develops symptoms such as a high fever, cough, runny nose, red or watery eyes, or a rash, please contact your healthcare provider before visiting a medical facility.

We have attached a Measles Information Guide for Parents and Guardians that provides additional information about symptoms, prevention, potential exposure procedures, and important contact information.

Please understand that this is a proactive communication, not a notification of a case or exposure. Our goal is to be prepared, keep our families informed, and ensure we can respond appropriately should the need arise.

Thank you for your continued support as we work together to keep Rocket Nation healthy and safe!
